What do you use for your recap (Talley) sheets?

I make my own and populate it using the BRS-2k 3-part 8.5"x11" without the bowler names, include the lane numbers, team names, officers. I'm match point so the teams mix the roster positions. I include columns for the scratch scores, handicap scores, ind point box, scratch series, handicap x 3, hdp+scr, and point box for wood.

I also include the art work for the rack showing pin number locations and a ball hitting pins, plus a points split box.

I have changed the column colors to help the scorer place the data in the correct field.

I used to buy 3 part paper to allow the teams to keep a copy, but as I started to get low on this special paper, I started keeping track of which teams kept their part, and found that in both my leagues 10 to 20% (2 to 4 teams) were interested in keeping a copy. So now I print out a copy or they go the desk to get one made.

I use pre-cut 5.5"x8.5" (half letter) sheets. What I do is purchase a ream of pastels, 100 sheets each of pink, canary, blue, green, goldenrod. My former employer being a printer, I have them cut it to my desired size and back trim it so they're all uniform in short dimension. (I learned the hard way—having an office supply store use their guillotine, for which they charge for two cuts since their small machine can't handle the whole ream—is inaccurate and leaves the sheets with about 1/8" difference.)

I then print the 5.5" x 8.5" recaps, which is designed to print two lane pairs per sheet. With the bottom half of the sheet not there, only half of the pairs print, so I do a second printing, changing the range of lanes to be two lanes higher, and the other half prints nicely. There are sliders that I've used successfully to bring the top of the second pair below the cut, so only if there's a malfunction does any of it appear at the bottom.

I have previously asked via the Wish List an item to have an option for printing the 5.5" x 8.5" recaps on the top half of a full sheet, leaving the bottom half blank (which would allow a secretary to print something of use on the bottom half which captains could detach—this could include a prize list ballot among others) or would allow me to print every pair on my half-sheets. It's not the end of the world.

I use a different color each week and have a font file saved so that the ink color (for the league name, primarily) complements the paper color (navy blue to print on a pastel blue, burgundy for the pink, etc.)

On the reverse side, I print a standings for the current segment. Below that, I have a list of subs and I use the "Other ID Number" field to indicate the ID number (this is for AMF Accuscore/Advantage) for each sub so I have the entire list handy at any lane pair for entry into the console. The bowlers really appreciate the standings, using the same paper already being used for a recap.

Now, there is something problematic with printing on these half sheets, for which I use one of the HP all-in-one printers, where the sheet feeds face down and flips over, prints, and is delivered on top of the sheets waiting to be fed. A full-size sheet feeds fine, but the shorter ones always come out crooked because there is no way of guiding the sheet as it's initially pulled by the feed roller(s). I should do a quick video for this, and show how I make this work. Drawing on my past work as a commercial printer, I lay about 1/8" (thick) of paper as dead weight over the bottom approximately 1" of the half-sheets waiting to be fed. It's just enough to keep the tail of the sheet flush with the desired feed path and results in good recaps.

I'm curious about the 3-part paper you managed to procure - did you use the padding compound to form joined sets, or did you just staple them in place?

When I used to print 3 copies I would staple them, But like Brian after seeing only a couple of team needing copies I stop printing 3 copies.

I do the paperwork for the majority of the leagues in our center. We only do 3-part printing for our Senior Leagues (daytime) -- old-timers are kind of set in their ways. One league does its own work using a competitor's software ( ! ); it provides the team with 3-part dot-matrix forms. LIke Larry and others, we determined that printing 3-part recaps was mainly a waste of time and material.
